With much thought and consideration, we have each chosen the following charities near and dear to our hearts.

Evan Shear
In a world that needs more love and less hate, this year my family and I have chosen our donation to go to the Anti-Defamation League. We have witnessed horrible crimes against innocent people in our nation this year in the name of hate. Hate has no place in this world and as someone who has faced antisemitism personally as a child and adult, I hope someday my kids can live in a world where they don’t have to worry about their faith. Together all of us can make a difference with accepting each other for our strengths and our weaknesses and loving one another unconditionally.

Dale Crossley
Being the father of three beautiful young women along with my involvement on the finance committee has led to my charitable donation going to The Preeclampsia Foundation this year. Their mission is to reduce maternal and infant illness and death due to preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy by providing patient support and education, raising public awareness, catalyzing research and improving healthcare practices. They envision a world where preeclampsia no longer threatens the lives of mothers and babies. I am happy to support that vision this holiday season! I would also like to give extra praise and gratitude to our family, friends, and clients that further this mission as doctors, nurses, midwives, and counselors.

Tracy Stuck
This year I have chosen a local charity focusing on children. As single Mom I was very fortunate. I have always had a good job and a supportive family. There were struggles. However, in the grand scheme of things, I was able to provide shelter, food, clothing and transportation for my son and I. Some people are not as fortunate. Baby DJ was founded by “Johnny Magic”, a local radio station personality, 25 years ago. Working around town he saw the struggle of families all year, but especially during the holidays. Johnny’s goal was to provide children the best holiday experience possible. The organization has expanded over the years and includes charity efforts throughout the year. No matter what the situation, children need to be valued, provided for and not forgotten, they are the future.

Karin Hobin
The charity I have chosen for this year is the For a Day Foundation, this foundation provides therapeutic play events to children battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. The Orlando Chapter hosts these events at Florida Hospital for Children and Nemours Children’s Hospital. They provide children and their families a few hours of imaginative play. They give them the opportunity to escape their daily routine and try to provide them with a positive, lasting memory. The internationally recognized play-oriented programs bring attention to the power of happiness in healing.

Carrie Barnes
I am delighted to have joined the CrossleyShear team this year and to have the opportunity to give to an organization that has quickly become one of my favorite charities! Having elementary school- aged children myself, the organization I’ve chosen is the Children’s Hunger Project. Earlier this year, my oldest child came home from school and said, “Mom, I don’t think my friend in class is getting enough to eat. She said that her parents forgot to give her dinner last night.” Having been completely blown away by the observation of my 10-year- old, the reality sunk in that not everyone is as fortunate as we are, to be able to provide our children with regular and healthy meals. And much to my surprise after having met with the Children’s Hunger Project, over 50% of Brevard County students are eligible for the National Free or Reduced Lunch Program. What’s worse, the teachers and school administrators at each school are left with the devastating responsibility of choosing which children receive the food packages each week (and which don’t) because the need is so great! I grew up here in Brevard County and my heart breaks to think about kids being hungry or needing proper nutrition, right here in our backyard! Their mission is simple, “We see a hungry kid. We buy food. We feed the kid.” And I am pleased to be helping them this year!

Bobbi McCoy
This year I have chosen Friends of Children of Brevard County, Inc., (Friends), which is a non- profit 501(c)(3) organization with volunteers who serve to raise funds and solicit in-kind donations to provide for the unmet needs of abused, neglected or abandoned children in Brevard County. It’s heartbreaking to realize that each year hundreds of Brevard County’s children are removed from their homes and placed under the Dependency Court as the result of abuse, neglect or abandonment. Each child under the Dependency Court is assigned a volunteer advocate called a Guardian ad Litem (GAL). When these Guardians have a child with an unmet need, they call upon “Friends” for help with almost anything: a bed, a bike, a pair of shoes, or even a school uniform. This helps to bring a sense of normalcy to their disrupted lives, especially during the holidays. This is why I have chosen “Friends” this year for my charitable organization.
